NBI Clearance For Philippines Expats

NBI Clearance

Go to https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/ and  enter your informatio in the form provided.

Wwhen you click "sign up" your information may disappear leading you to think that the process did not work since no success message appears.

If that happens just look for "sign in" at the top right of the page and enter your email password and you should be taken to the "Application " page where you can enter all of your personal data for your clearance.

When you are satisfied that all of your data is correct click "save" and the click "apply for clearance."

You will be given the opportunity to select the NBI office at which you wish schedule your appointment to pick up your clearance and having done that the calendar will show how many open shots are available for each day.

After selecting your location and time of pickup you are given several options for payment.

Credit card is not an option so I picked 7/11.

After you select your method of payment you will receive a reference number.

At any time your can retrive that reference number by selecting transactions from the left side of the page.

Use the reference number to when you pay at your chosen outlet and keep the receipt of payment.

Check your status on the NBI site after you pay and print it out to take with the receipt and your ID when you pick up your clearance.

There are several ID types that are shown on the drop down list on the NBI site, but ACR-I card is not one of them. Expats can use a passport or a police clearance.

Cost of NBI clearance 130PHP + 25PHP for doing it online.

When you register online you MUST pay for it within 24 hours or you will have the go through the process again. If you go to pay and you cannot because the reference number is invalid that is because you waited too long.

Every foreigner applying for his/her first NBI clearance gets a "hit."

If you apply at any location other than the Manila HQ they have to send it to the HQ and it will take about three weeks for you to get your cert.

If you have been present in Philippines more than 6 months BI instructions only require the NBI clearance in that case, but some are reporting being required to provide police clearance from their home PD as well. Police clearance letter is not hard ,so get it just in case.

Your NBI Clearance will return one of several possible response codes. Some of these include:

"No record on file"

"No derogatory record"

“No pending case”

“No criminal record”

"With derogatory record"

"No record on file" means applicant has never requested a clearance before.

Foreigners will generally not get this and instead will always get "with Hit" the first time you get a clearance which forces all of your paperwork to go to the Manila HQ for a thorough initial check.

"No derogatory record" simple renewal with no change in status.

“No pending case” and “No criminal record” means that your name is in the NBI database and may be connected to a past case.

If you get a response of "  “No pending case” “No criminal record” or "With derogatory record" it spells bad news for you.  I am not certain about the meaning of “No pending case,” but  "With derogatory record" is obviously bad. From what I gather “No criminal record” means that you have a pending case in some court in the Philippines. If the clearance is for a fiance visa for a Filipino, then they will need to get a letter of explanation to submit to the US embassy in the even that you get one of these three responses.

Foreigners are only required to obtain NBI clearance prior to departing the Philippines if they are under a departure order from Bureau of Immigration.

As with everything, verify all of this two, three and four times via other sources.
